London calling

A year ago, or maybe 11 months, sometime before Thanksgiving 2022, Katie and Christian decided they HAD to go to London (partly because we had gone earlier in the year and they were a tad jealous, and because Katie had gone on a high school band trip to London and had always wanted to go back). They wanted to take all the kids with them, but wanted some help so they invited us to go along with them. Even though we had JUST been, we were eager to go again! And yes, we would assist with monitoring the children.

We planned bit by bit, bought plane tickets, booked hotel rooms, planned our itinerary, bought admission tickets for many places, and talked about it a lot!

The best thing about traveling with children is you get to take advantage of early boarding! Emma was my seat neighbor and she was very well-behaved! She didn't eat much, but I don't blame her. The food was meh. I ate it, but only for the calories.

Here are some photos from the first half of the first day:

On my first trip to London, we passed by Hyde park, but never went in. This time, we stayed right across the street from Hyde Park and went through it several times. It's a very lovely, but HUGE park. Many many people take advantage of this green space. Above is a picture of me right inside one of the entrances, near a map of the park.

Round pond. Many birds relax here. And they squawk loudly sometimes. Hayley and I sat on a bench and listened to them make a lot of noise. Jim was back at the hotel waiting for K and C to arrive. They took two taxis from the airport. We took the train.

A nice big swan lording himself over the pond.

breakfast??? at a little restaurant right next to the hotel. Jackson was cold.

We're here!!! The trip is a reality and we can hardly believe it!

PORRIDGE! I've been waiting for this for a whole year! I LOVE PORRIDGE!

After breakfast, we hopped on a Hop On/Hop Off bus and rode around for nearly 3 hours for something non-strenuous to do to mark time until we could get into our hotel rooms.

some of us fell asleep on the bus

Actually, many of us fell asleep.

End of part 1 of day 1. I'm doing this in small chunks because of the difficulty of adding and arranging photos on Blogspot.
