Memphis pic dump from day 1

Jim and I went to Memphis to visit my sister, who has lived in Memphis for a year and a half. We have never been to Memphis, and Jim wanted to take a trip for his birthday (which was last Thursday).

We packed so much activity in two days in Memphis, so I have many pictures. I'm just going to do a photo dump.
Morning walk: we came across this covered walking bridge in a defunct golf course. The ground was muddy and soggy from all the rain this area got, but we managed to keep out of most of the mud.

Jenni gave us a list of thing to see in Memphis, and first on the list was the Peabody hotel duck march. It starts right at 11. This is the duck master. He was quite a showman. He gave us a little history about the duck march.

At precisely 11 a.m., the ducks are brought down from the roof top by elevator and marched on the red carpet to the fountain where they stay until 5 p.m. Today was this batch of ducks' first time making the trip. They didn't want to go into the fountain at first and had to be herded and cajoled into waddling up the stairs.

Finally, they made it

After the Peabody, we walked down Beale Street, where there are many souvenir shops, music joint, bbq restaurants, and giant painted guitars.

The Pro Bass Shop pyramid

It's amazing inside! There is a hotel, various restaurants, and an elevator to the top. There are ponds and aquariums too.

We did not go up the elevator

We had wanted to go to the Civil Rights museum earlier, but it was closed off because of a ceremony attended by many dignitaries, thus necessitating closure of roads and restriction of the public from the event. We made it back later but didn't go in, because we didn't have the time.

But we did take pictures outside of where Dr Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated.

Jim wanted to drive by Sun Studios, the studio that started the careers of Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and of course, Elvis.

It was way smaller than we thought, but they had a tour starting when we got there/

Elvis!

The actual mic from the studio. I had to do more than just stand by it.

We ended our sightseeing day with a quick stop in Mississippi because neither of us have been before.
It was a full day.
