Ketchikan--when we actually step onto Alaska

I have wanted to go to all 50 states, but didn't ever try very hard because of the logistics and money involved in getting to Alaska and Hawaii, but when this trip opportunity presented itself, I was looking forward to saying I've been to Alaska! And now I can say that! Jim will have to go sometime and of course I'll go with him.

We are officially on Alaska territory. With a bear statue. That's our ship in the background.

First stop, Jellyfish donuts. They were SO GOOD. Sadly for me, I did not get a pic of the pastries.

Houses and lots in Ketchikan. I wouldn't mind living here.

Other bits of Alaska in the distance and the boat's butt.

My kiddos enjoying Alaska sun and fresh air.

We are happy to be here!
A bumblebee Katie picked up off the sidewalk. She moved it farther down the street onto some grass.

Um, bears? Get a room.

We had to walk through the tunnel

Ketchikan

Katie specifically wanted to see a totem pole.

I saw this fountain in a gift shop and I really like it.

We stopped in a lot of gift shops. We didn't have an excursion booked for Ketchikan, we just wanted to poke around. Ketchikan had the best gifts shops of the three cities we stopped in. The weather was PERFECT. It was not quite hot, but it wasn't cold. Most of the time I had my jacket hanging off my purse.

Someone has their own personal funicular. It was labeled private property. I would totally build one here because the town is on a very steep hill.

Walking to our lunch spot, right next to the Lumberjack show, and we could hear it going on. If I ever go back to Ketchikan, I'm going to go see the Lumberjack show.

We managed to get there 5 minutes before the lunch rush! Whew!

I got salmon tacos, Katie got a salmon burger, and Hayley got a salmon rice bowl. Good eatin'!

Hayley's goal on this trip was to eat salmon in Alaska. We had many opportunities.

Eating salmon was on Katie's list of things to do as well and we all agreed that was a good choice.
